Someone emailed me the other day, wondering how the employment market is here in Canada. To some extent, it depends on the type of work you do and where you are living.
For example, there are usually fewer job opportunities in the east coast provinces than in Ontario and on the west coast. If you want to work in Quebec or for the Canadian government, you should probably know how to speak French. And if you are a professional from another country, you might not be able to work in your chosen field for quite some time. I have met a doctor from China and a lawyer from South America who are working in restaurants or delivering pizza.
Some areas of the country pay higher wages, but the cost of housing and food may also be higher too. And if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
A new automotive plant just opened in Ontario, in a little town called Woodstock. So the economy is still moving. This was written in an Ontario newspaper, along with a quote from one of our Ontario politicians: After acknowledging the loss of jobs in the automotive industry in Ontario and the deepening economic downturn, Premier Dalton McGuinty also delivered a reassuring message, saying simply, “We are going to be OK . . . Don’t forget where you are. There is no better place now than Canada.”

canada is country who everybody will enjoy to be there because it’s peacefull and full of opportunities ,people are living the real democracy ,there is no racism ,actually it’s a dream country of many people ,but there is just one problem i’ts very difficult to immigrate.
Hi Johnny, I’m sorry to hear that is so difficult to immigrate here. I think it may depend on which country you are coming from and what job skills you can bring to Canada. I’m not an expert in that area though, so keep trying.
As for living in Canada, like many countries, it isn’t always peaceful (especially in the larger cities), opportunities aren’t as abundant as you may think, and in some areas there is still racism – although we try our best to limit it.
Canada may be a dream country for many people, but the first couple of years here can be very difficult. Loneliness and cultural differences are some of the challenges you may face.
Canada is a wonderful country, but remember, there is no place on earth that is totally perfect!
