Chalk Lake And The Ross Family
Below is a comment I received from Frank Cummings in answer to a question about Chalk Lake. Sharon wrote in to ask if this was indeed the Chalk Lake near Port Perry as she is doing research for a family history. Rather than delegate Frank’s answer to the comments area where it might not be seen, I thought I’d create another post for it. I continue to be amazed at the number of people who are interested in this small, beautiful lake.
Here is Frank’s reply:
Attention Sharon Jamieson: just to let you know that according to the 1877 Ontario County map, the Ross family still owned property on Chalk Lake in 1877. I have a map that identifies the Ross family owning property that bordered on Chalk Lake to the north of their property and the southern border of the property bordering on what is now Townline Road, the border between Whitby and Scugog Township (Port Perry). I’d be happy to share a copy of the map I have if you’re interested. Let me know.”
Frank also included his phone number, which I hesitate to put on a public forum such as this. So Sharon, if you’d like to contact Frank please email me and I’ll give you his number.
