This past weekend, my family and I attended a wedding in Ottawa, our capital city. Since the schedule didn’t allow much free time, we were unable to see the Parliament buildings or the canal. The wedding took place at Notre Dame Cathedral, so we did manage to visit one of the tourist areas. There was so many ornate carvings, stained glass, gold and marble that it was difficult to keep my mind on the wedding. The ceremony was short, but the photos taken there will be a keepsake for years to come.
Parking was a bit hard to find and we had to walk a few blocks to our car. On the way, we passed a number of tour buses, a double decker sightseeing trolley, and all kinds of visitors taking pictures.
Many of the streets were one way and the roads were filled with traffic moving slower than I could have walked. We were unable to make a left turn at the Cathedral and the road suddenly became a highway. There was no way to exit or turn around and before we knew it (only about five minutes away), we were in the province of Quebec.
Four families of relatives live in Ottawa and all of them love it there. They enjoy the numerous museums and sites of interest for all ages, and the variety of outdoor activities, including boating or skating on the canal.
As for me, I like my small town Cambridge, where I can get from one end of town to the other in less than half an hour.
