Splash Pads

It’s been very hot here these last few weeks. I’ve been taking my three year old grandson to the park. They have what’s called a splash pad. A splash pad is a big area of cement. On the cement are a number of places where the water comes up like a geyser. These fountains go on for a few minutes and then turn off until someone pushes the control to start them again.Even though the water is freezing cold, kids have loads of fun running through them. Somehow my grandson manages to stay in it for half an hour or more before he starts shivering.

On a hot day, it really cools you off and we adults wish we could run through as well. In fact, sometimes we do. Even though it isn’t swimming, it’s still refreshing. And for a small child it’s very safe. The biggest problem is getting your children to leave. So I carry a screaming child to the car every day. Oh well, the joys of being a grandma.
