Driver’s Test

My daughter took her driver’s test today. In my day, there was one license and two tests – one written and one actual driving. But under the new rules, there is a written test to get your G1, then a driving test to get your G2, and within 5 years, a highway driving test to get your final G license.

This test was for her G2 and although she is a very good driver, my daughter was more than nervous. When we practiced before the test, she seemed to forget everything and I wasn’t sure if she would pass.

Cambridge does not have a driver testing facility, so we traveled about 45 minutes to a town called Woodstock. I was glad we arrived early to practice because there were a number of one way streets, a busy main street, and people walking in front of the cars whenever they felt like it.

Thankfully, the tester was a calm and understanding man who realized just how nervous my daughter was. Even though she had trouble with her parking, he decided to pass her. Now all we need is a little car of her own to drive.

Driving Lessons

Right now I’m sitting in the back of a car while my daughter is being taught how to parallel park. She is taking her test tomorrow and since I can’t judge distance, I am not a good teacher.

When I took my test many years ago, it was a very snowy day, with huge snow drifts on each side of the road, so I didn’t have to parallel park and still can’t do it to this day. The disadvantage is that I sometimes have to park miles away.

iPod Repair

My son, Matt, has an iPod repair shop in downtown Toronto that has been getting a lot of publicity lately, both in the newspapers and with radio interviews. People from all over North America and Europe send him their iPods to repair. If you walk into his shop on College Street, he offers service while you wait.

Matt also sells accessories and seems to be meeting a real need. Before Chrismas he was swamped with work and looking forward to a holiday. His website is irepair.ca if you ever need your iPod repaired.

Still No Snow

It’s almost the end of December and still no snow in Cambridge. Toronto had a light dusting, enough to cause a number of accidents. It happens every year, the first few stoms of the the season and people are still driving as fast as they ever were.

Oh the Weather Outside Is Cheery

Here it is December 16th and we have no snow! Not a spoonful. The grass is green and yesterday the sun was shining. So far today looks a little cold and dull, but not like our typical December. Why, I have hardly even worn my boots. This is not your typical Canadian weather for this time of the year. I doubt the ski resorts are too happy about it, although I think they make their own snow if they have to.
